Why Go Green?

Going green means using as little of the earths precious resources as possible. Green living creates a healthier environment, saves money and reduces carbon emissions that contribute to global warming.

Global warming works like this:

When oil, coal, gasoline or natural gas is burned, carbon, CO2, is released into the air. So when we heat and light our homes, drive our cars, and manufacture goods, we emit carbon. You don't have to be a scientist to recognize that human beings are doing more and more of this.

Trees take this carbon and convert it into the oxygen we breathe. However, the earth's forests have been reduced by 75% since 1900. With the increased amount of carbon in the air and less vegetation the layer of CO2 is building up in the earth's atmosphere.

CO2 in our atmosphere traps heat and warms the earth. Since the CO2 is increasing, our atmosphere is warming. Records show the temperature of the earth's climate has increased an average of 1 degree in the last few decades. This seemingly small increase is having a huge negative impact on our natural environment.

Global warming aside there are plenty of other reasons to go green, including lower utility bills, cleaner air and water. To get started going green, check out our green calculators.
