History
In October of 2006 the Evanston City Council voted unanimously to sign the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection
Agreement. This agreement was made possible through the united efforts of several volunteer groups known
collectively as the Network for Evanston's Future. The resulting Evanston Climate Action Plan, ECAP, was
presented to the community in May of 2008 at a meeting of over 300 enthusiastic community members.
Attendees had the opportunity to join various Task Forces, each one focusing on a specific level of sustainability,
These Task Forces were the beginning of Citizens' Greener Evanston, which continues to work on strategies

Mission
Citizens' Greener Evanston works to improve the community's capacity
to act in a sustainable manner by addressing environmental, economic,
and social equity goals.
Goals
To fulfill its mission, CGE will
- Promote awareness of, and access to, practical and cost-effective
sustainability resources for residents, businesses, institutions, and
public entities.
- Advocate for practices and policies that support local and regional
sustainability goals and ideals.
- Create a unifying sustainability effort that encourages
participation from all segments of the Evanston community.
